Study Objectives

If all of the elements of this lesson plan are employed, students will develop the following powers, skills, and understanding:

    Students will research and analyze the time period surrounding the novel, coming to an understanding of the social, economic, and political forces shaping England around the 1910s.

    Students will trace major themes, particularly the theme of connection, over the course of the novel.
