    What is the significance of King George's recurring songs? Why did Miranda include them?

    King George serves as an outside commentator, both in positive and negative ways. He shows that no one commentator is universally bad, universally good, or universally reliable. For example, he serves as a comic but threatening figure in "You'll Be Back," a parody of an abusive partner, but asks valid questions that drive the narrative in "What Comes Next." He also serves to provide exposition in "I Know Him," since John Adams never actually appears as a character in the play.
