    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    Students will write an opinion article for a local newspaper arguing for or against the continued use of Biolene in Fuzzy Mud.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.7.4

    Structure:

    Part 1: What is does an opinion piece look and sound like?

    First, students will read the following opinion article from the New York Times

    Long Covid NYT Op-Ed

    They should make notes on the following:

    1. What is the author's opinion?

    2. About how long is the article?

    3. Were you convinced?

    Part 2: Writing your own opinion piece

    Each student should respond to the following question in their article:
