Dirty Dancing
Baby walks into a dance for the staff where she finds everyone dirty dancing. This type of sexual expression in their movement is a symbol of crudeness and vulgarity to the older guests that come to visit the Catskills. This is why it is hidden away from them.
The Leap
The final move of Baby and Johnny's dance routine requires her to leap into his arms. It is a symbol of her letting go of her fear of being who she is a trusting that she can be completely free and expressive, and someone will be there to support her.
Doctor Jake
Baby's father is a doctor who cares for his community and family. His profession is a symbol of who he is to her: healer, protector, diagnoser, surgeon, etc. He is the final say it what is good for Baby, and she must learn to break free from him determining the "healthy" course for her life.
Robbie
Robbie is a young man who works at the Catskills resort with Johnny and the rest of the team. He is a symbol of selfishness, ego, ambition and lack of concern for anyone but himself. He gets Penny pregnant and abandons her as he goes on sexual conquests with the rich wives of other men at the resort.
The Lake
Johnny helps Baby to learn the final lift portion of their routine in a lake where she can fall all she needs to without fear of hurting herself. This creating of an environment for her is a symbol of the safety that Johnny creates for Baby to be herself, and to not have to get it right all the time.
