As for Me and My House Summary

Mrs. Bentley is married to a reverend named Philip Bentley. The couple lives in Horizon. However, Philip is not romantically attached to his wife. That worries Mrs. Bentley, who tries everything to make her husband happy. Tired of her husband’s lack of romance, Mrs. Bentley decides to make friends with a schoolteacher named Paul. Paul seems to be romantically attached to Mrs. Bentley. However, Mrs. Bentley has no love feelings for Paul. On the other hand, Philip appears to be developing an interest in Judith West. Mrs. Bentley spends her time drawing and designing to keep herself busy.

Before long, Philip and his wife take a boy named Steve for adoption. Steve is introduced to Bentleys by Paul. The Bentleys are Protestants, while Steve is a Catholic follower. Steve makes Philip and his wife rekindle their deteriorating relationship. However, when Steve leaves the house, their relationship becomes cold again. Soon after, Mrs. Bentley becomes gravely ill. As a result, Judith is forced to tend to her. Judith is tasked to perform house chores and cook for the family.

Nevertheless, Mrs. Bentley starts suspecting that her husband is having an affair with Judith. Her fears are confirmed when Judith becomes pregnant. Judith is forced to go to her family’s rural home to take care of herself during the pregnancy period. Later, Judith dies while giving birth. The Bentleys adopt her child. Luckily, the child makes their relationship healthy again.
