    Connie's story suggests that she so longs to be special that she makes up this absurd story. Even when Concha later explains to Pepe that Connie is a habitual liar, the story shows how she uses the idea of specialness to control men. This same strategy plays out in her relationships with Pepe's father and with Paco, as she attracts them by appearing to be exceptional.
