    Although "Three Generations" focuses on men, women play an important role in the story. What function do the women serve? Do we ever get a sense of their desires? What is the effect of downplaying the female perspective in the story?

    Students will surely note that the women have little say in the actions of the story, especially the young woman first driven away from and then returned to the grandfather. However, some should note that while the story's portrayal of toxic masculinity certainly harms women, it also harms men, as demonstrated by Chitong's frustrations.
