Introduction to The Way Up to Heaven

“The Way Up to Heaven” is a short story by Roald Dahl. It was originally published in 1954 in The New Yorker magazine. Later, it was included in a collection of short stories titled Kiss Kiss (1960). While Dahl is known for his children’s literature, including Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda, he also wrote several dark realist stories. “The Way Up to Heaven” is a story for adults in which Dahl focuses on the drama within a dysfunctional marriage.
