Macabre Stories Jigsaw

Objective:

Students will infer the common characteristics of macabre stories.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.5

Structure:

Before this activity, organize students into small groups of 3 or 4. In these “Expert Groups,” students will need to read one macabre story in addition to “The Way Up to Heaven” for homework. In class, instruct students to count off up to 5 (or as many numbers as you need for students to be in groups of 3 or 4). Then, assign students a story based on their group numbers and instruct them to read the story for homework.
