    Is Hagar aware of how she deals with grief? Why do you think she never cried when confronted by death? Is she unfeeling or is there something else at play?

    Hagar wonders why she never shed a tear from the numerous deaths of her family members but does on the ride home from the doctor’s office. Students may infer as to why this is the case. Some may think that Hagar is bitter and unfeeling, only able to cry for her own misfortunes. Others may think her inability to cry after a death is merely a method of coping with tragedy. What we do know is that as Hagar has aged she has lost almost all independence, perhaps the most important thing to her. The visit to the doctor...
