The Spirit of the Beehive Irony

The Spirit of the Beehive Irony

The paradox of parenting

Parenting is a responsibility that requires parents to pay attention to their children's needs. Paradoxically, Fernando and Teresa are doing exactly the opposite. For instance, Fernando spends most of his time studying and researching beehives. On the other hand, Teresa is consumed with writing love letters to an unknown lover. Therefore, Ana and Isabel are left alone, and they live as if they do not have parents. To keep themselves busy, Ana and Isabel often go to watch movies.

The satire of illusion

Ana is flabbergasted and annoyed by the actions of the monster that kills a young girl in a movie show. After the incident, people get angry at the monster and kill him instantly. These events send cold chills in Ana's veins, and she gets shocked. Satirically, she does not want to accept that the events in the movie are fiction and illusion because they have not taken place in reality. Isabel tries to comfort Ana, but she does not want to accept that the events are unreal.

The injured republican soldier

The appearance of the republican injured soldier at the sheepfold is ironic. When Ana meets the injured soldier, she thinks he is the monster she had seen earlier in the movie. Ironically, she sympathizes with the fighter and offers to help. Initially, Ana was angry at the monster that killed the young girl, but she now wants to help the soldier she thinks is the same monster.
