    Upon arriving in Delhi, May wonders why she came and says, “But lying there, frightened, in that hotel bed, curiosity seemed like no reason at all for traveling five thousand miles. It didn’t seem like a reason for anything—what was curiosity, after all?” (163)

    Do you agree that curiosity is not a good reason for traveling or for anything at all? Why or why not? Do you think May believes her own thoughts here? Explain.

    Overall, this question is meant to get students thinking about love as a theme in the novel, in this case, as it relates to Tridib and May. Strong responses will include thoughtful, well-reasoned ideas about curiosity and its role in life and love....
