For instance, Buzzati says that he started his journey at 30, and eight years have already passed. Still, Buzzati is on with his journey, which does not seem to end any time sooner. Initially, Buzzati thought that the journey could take a few days, but he was astonished because the remaining journey was uncertain.

Buzzati is accompanied by seven messengers in his journey. Buzzati wants to send one messenger to take his letters back to the capital and bring him the latest news from the capital. However, the naming of his messengers using alphabetical letters depicts sight imagery. For instance, he names his messengers from letters A to G, which helps readers easily identify his aids.
The imagery of reality
The imagery of reality is evident when the prince discovers that if he sends a messenger to the capital, he will take 34 years to return. When the messengers return, the prince will be too old or dead. This imagery is vital in helping readers see the complexity of the prince's journey. Consequently, the prince will not finish his journey any time sooner because it is full of uncertainty.
