Students will develop a familiarity with postmodern literature, and understand how this work exemplifies some of its tropes.
Students will discuss ideas of immigration and "otherness."
Students will research the history of Islam and explore how Rushdie engages with that history in his novel.
Students will explore the lasting social implications of the fatwa on Salman Rushdie.
