The Removalists Summary

The Removalists Summary

The story of The Removalists is placed in Melbourne, Australia, in a police station. There is an old and knowledgeable Sergeant there, named Dan Simmonds. He is busy interviewing and inspecting the new constable that is placed in the station: Neville Ross. Ross and Simmonds are polar opposites, as Simmonds is cultured and calm, with a strong personality, while Ross is nervous.

Two women enter the police station, and they are much like the polar opposites of Ross and Simmonds. The women are sisters, called Kate Mason and Fiona Carter. Kate is posh and rich, while Carter is nervous and quiet. Mason explains that Carters husband has been abusing her, which is why they arrived. When Simmonds tells Ross that this can be his first case, Mason is aggravated and insists that Simmonds take the case himself.

While Carter’s husband, Kenny, is at the pub, Simmonds and the sisters agree on calling a removalist to move the furniture Carter paid for herself. Kenny comes home earlier than they though, and he is in the apartment together with Carter. A knock can be heard on the door, and the Kenny grows suspicious of everything that is happening. Another knock is hear, where Simmonds and Rodd handcuffs Kenny, before they start removing the furniture.

Simmonds beats Kenny after he taunts him, and Ross takes him with him back to the station. Ross gets aggravated by Kenny as well, and they begin fighting and Ross beats Kenny to near death. Ross is stressed and begs Simmonds for help, and they both believe that Kenny is dead. They start brainstorming methods for justified murder. Kenny appears, not dead, but dies quickly later. Ross punches Simmonds in hope of it looking like Kenny assaulted to officers, and the play ends with them fighting.
