The Removalists Background

The Removalists is a play by David Williamson, initially premiering in 1971. The play follows main ideas and themes of domestic violence, emphasizing its application to Australian society at the time, and the harmful effects that it has. Peter Cummins is the star of the play, playing main character Sergeant Simmonds, who is an abusive police officer that threatens his new recruited officer. The play is well known for the style in which it is written, not scared to used words with negative connotations to portray a point.

Born in 1942, David Williamson is an Australian playwright. He is best known for his play, The Removalists, which won the Australian Writers Guild Awgie Award for the best stage play and script. The play was later turned into a film, which received mediocre reviews.
