“A man with the nose”

Dangling from his upper lip to below his chin, five or six inches long, it was of the same thickness from end to end. The very beginning of the story puts forward the central issue, which is not attractive and obviously has a particular catching prehistory. It also brings the first mood and treatment of the future events. These words show us the man with a history, with the last one being probably well-known and actively discussed in the town.

“Looking for the noses”

He took no notice of the rich silken attire, the ordinary hempen clothes, the priests’ saffron hoods nor their dark sacerdotal robes, all of which counted for nothing in his eyes. There’s the life in these words. Life that is bright and full of colors. Life that involves communication even in the community of monks. And this imagery it is shown that this life is coming by Zenchi who sees only his nose. So obsessed, he should have changed the treatment of it.

“Dawn”

…the garden was as bright as if it were carpeted with gold, because in the garden the ginkgo trees and horse chestnuts had overnight shed all their leaves; and the chest of the pagoda must have been encrusted with frost, for the nine copper rings were brightly shining in the still faint glimmer of the rising sun. The nature and the weather in this story shades the tension increasing during the story. After so big excitement there comes a quiet: both in nature and in Zenchi’s soul. Nature, at all times being admired in Japan, is an expression of long-desired harmony that was finally achieved.
