The theme of healing

The three central characters in this novel have different misfortunes that make them develop suicidal thoughts. For instance, Alice's parents and her husband are dead. Jacob is in a wheelchair after getting involved in a horrible road accident that almost claimed his life. On the other hand, Harry is depressed because he is homeless. However, when these three people meet and share their experiences, they find solace in beekeeping, Alice's primary economic activity. They encourage each other, and in the process, they start healing and viewing life from a positive perspective. Towards the of the story, these three characters get healed and start a new life full of optimism for a better future.

Ultimate friendship

Friendship is a vital theme in the novel, and the author illustrates that age differences cannot prevent people from bonding together. Despite Alice being forty years old, she befriends Harry and Jacob, who are in their early twenties. The friendship between these three people develops very first, and they quickly discover they have many things in common. After meeting Harry and Jacob, Alice finds a new family and does not feel lonely anymore. Harry moves to live on Alice’s farm and gets a comfortable home in his lifetime. Jacob discovers that his friends make his life lively because he does not feel pain anymore.

The theme of grief

The theme of grief is evident in the novel The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin. Alice is a forty-year-old woman grieving the death of her husband and parents. Alice finds herself in a hard situation and is depressed because she does not know what life holds for her. Losing loved ones in the family, especially close members, is a painful and harsh experience that no one wants to go through. Alice finds herself in this situation and wishes that she died to reunite with her husband and parents. However, Garvin encourages her readers to remain steadfast because life does not end when we lose our loved ones. Instead, the author challenges readers to be courageous and bold enough to move on no matter how hard it is.
