The Knight in the Panther's Skin Irony

Capture the stranger

When the King sees the stranger for the first time, he is intrigued by the strange way in which the man was dressed. As soon as the King saw the stranger, he expressed his desire to learn more about the man. Ironically, instead of approaching the stranger as a friend, the King sent his army after him, scaring the stranger and making him run away.

The stranger is the devil

When the King returns home, he thinks more deeply about the stranger and reaches the conclusion that the stranger must have been the devil. Ironically, despite thinking that the stranger is a dangerous person who must be avoided, he refuses to give up his desire to meet the man face to face and continues to send men after him ruled by his desire to catch the stranger.

I feel the same but you must prove your love

Tinatin is the King's only daughter and after the King and Avtandil come back from hunting, the future ruler asks Avtandil to come to her room and admits that she loves him as well and is interesting in marrying him. Ironically, even though both characters have feelings of love for one another, Tinatin claims she is unable to marry Avtandil until he proves his love for her. Ironically thus, Avtandil is sent on a long quest in an attempt to prove his love for the young princess.

The prince living inside a cage

After three long years, Avtandil finds the stranger and follows him to the cage where he lived together with a woman. At a first glance, Avtandil was quick to judge the stranger as being an uneducated and dangerous outlaw who must be eliminated. Ironically, Avtandil soon finds that the man he is searching for is not only an educated man but is actually a powerful prince.

Ordered to be killed by his own father

The last part of the story focuses on the past of the Indian prince and his love for his own sister. When the prince's father found about the plan the two siblings had, namely to be wed to one another, the King ordered the death of his own son. This situation is ironic because it lead to a great period of instability and left the kingdom without any heir to the throne.
