To examine the important symbols and allegory in the events that happen in the Pyncheon garden.

Structure:
Chapter Ten describes several vignettes, each having their own symbolic significance to the wider store. Have students, either individually or in groups, choose from one of the following Pyncheon Garden stories:
- Phoebe reading to Clifford (fiction, poetry, and just talking to him) in the arbor
- The Pyncheon Chickens (1): Their general behavior and appearance
- The Pyncheon Chickens (2): The mother hen's behavior towards the young 'venerable' chicken...
