To examine point of view by reimagining the opening of the shop through Hepzibah's eyes.

Discuss the way the narrator introduces Hepzibah, and the tone he takes in describing her, especially where it is mocking. Ask students what effect the narrator's point of view has on our own perception of Hepzibah.
