The House at Pooh Corner

The House at Pooh Corner Analysis

This whimsical narrative about Winnie the Pooh is a firework of joy and optimism. It's not subjected to the laws of the fairy tale genre. It does not have dramatic situations, the struggle between Good and Evil, it is easy and smiling, and all the adventures that occur with Christopher's toys - the characters of this tale - are very similar to children's games. Milne, chuckling, paints characters of the "heroes" that determine their behavior, actions. The writer has lodged the boy and his bear together with other heroes-toys in the fairy Forest.

The forest is a psychological space of children's play and fantasy. Everything that takes place there is a myth born of the imagination of Milne senior: the fact is that as the narrative proceeds, the characters leave the author's subordination and begin to live their lives. Time in this Forest is also psychological and mythological: it moves only within the limits of individual stories, without changing anything at all. "Long ago, it seems, last Friday ..." - so begins one of the stories. Heroes know the days of the week, the hours are determined by the sun. This is a cyclical, closed time of early childhood.

The heroes do not mature; their age is determined according to the chronology of the appearance next to the boy. Christopher Robin - 6 years old, bear - 5, Piglet seems that "terribly many years: maybe three years, and maybe even four!". Winnie the Pooh is the embodiment of optimism. And although his head is stuffed with sawdust, he has to think a lot, he is incredibly inventive. Either he depicts himself as a cloud in the blue sky, trying to deceive the bees and feast on honey or decides to dig very deep Pit to catch the Elephant. A bit of a glutton, a little poet, Winnie the Pooh is cheerful and for every occasion composes a song that he sings loudly.

Pooh is always ready to come to the help for friends and give them his optimism. Probably, for this Christopher Robin loves "a stupid little bear" more than all other toys. And here is another character - a pessimist donkey Eeyore, who is always sad. He drowsily watches something on the ground, or on his reflection in the water. And all that he says is an ironic parody of the pessimism.

Slightly ironic are depicted Piglet, who is proud of his ancestor, and cautious Rabbit, saying from the hole that "absolutely, absolutely no one at home," because you can not let anyone in the hole. Rabbit is also practical.

Milne is laughing over the erudite Owl, who is not very good at even writing, but is afraid of losing his credibility. Therefore he, before making an inscription on a pot from under honey, tries to find out if Pooh can read anything. Humorous situations are associated in most cases with the Winnie-the-Pooh’s head is stuffed with sawdust, and he does not immediately realize what is happening.

But for all inhabitants of the Forest Christopher Robin remains an unshakable authority. He is called to help in difficult cases, it is he who is the most intelligent: he is able to write, he is inventive and knowledgeable. From time to time there appear strangers in the forest: real or fictitious heroes. Strangers at first are perceived morbidly, with fear: this is the psychology of early childhood.

All the characters have no sense of humor; on the contrary, they are very serious about any issue. They are kind; it is important for them to be loved, they are waiting for sympathy and praise. The logic of heroes is childishly selfish, the actions committed on its basis are ridiculous.

The theme of the work is the adventures of toy heroes in fairy-tale situations; about friendship and mutual assistance. The ideological content is expressed in the author's love for childhood, for childhood fantasies. The main idea of this work is childhood - a unique time, and every child is the discoverer of his world.

"Winnie the Pooh" is recognized throughout the world as one of the best examples of the book for family reading. The book has everything that attracts children, but there is also something that makes adults think and think about it.
