Steve McQueen
Steve McQueen had his great breakthrough in The Great Escape and is often referred to and known as “The Cooler King” and “The King of Cool”. After the movie he was given a superstar status and is known for having made an amazing performance as his character. He died in 1980, only aged 50 of a cancer that wasn’t cured. He served in the United States Marine Corps for three years.
Richard Attenborough
Richard Samuel Attenborough, Baron Attenborough died in 2014, and reached 80 years. He was a member of the House of Lords, Lord Temporal. He also had a military history in the Royal Air Force, just as his character in the movie, which was important for him if he would fit the character. He has won two Academy Awards, and also worked as a director and a producer, whist being a Labor party politician.
Angus Lennie
Angus Lennie’s character was based on a man named Jimmy Kiddel, who was shot and killed when he tried running and escaping. One of the tree main movies he acted in was The Great Escape, as well as Crossroads. He was a Scottish actor which fit in with his character in the movie. He died in 2003, after acting for over 50 years, dying before he turned 86.
