Rand makes an effort to establish Arad Doman's people, but the ever-rising exasperates him effervesces of evil, inability to arrange mercantile council and the food supplies' spoilage. Consequently, these challenges are delaying Rand from declaring the new king. However, Rodel Ituralde (Rand's former army leader) becomes handy because Rand convinces him to guard borderlands and puts more effort into reorganizing Doman.

Elaida’s rule is protested against by Egwene, who convinces Sisters and Aja's Heads not to cooperate with Elaida. Elaida is the new head in the White Tower, but her leadership is not easy because of the revolts that have begun to surface. On the other hand, Gawn learns that Egwene has been taken captive by Elaida, and he leaves the forces to come for her rescue.

Semirhage captures the domination band and Rand. Rand starts again to strategize how to save his people and achieve goals. Later, Rand is helped by Nynaeve to escape captivity. Rand is determined to locate Graendal’s palace because he wants to destroy it using the balefire, which he lastly manages to fulfill.

Egwene learns that Verin is a Black Ajah. Verin accepts to work for Egwene as a lifetime researcher, and she agrees to reveal all the Black Ajah members. Meanwhile, the White Tower is destroyed due to Seanchan Forces’ Raid. After the raid, Elaida is missing in action, and Egwene is appointed as the new Amyrlin by Sedai, who has always protested against Elaida's rule.
