Although laws had changed regarding Civil Rights, things still hadn't changed in practice. For example, although segregation was no longer law in America, it was still upheld as people's attitudes were racially prejudiced.

The G.I Bill was an act that promised to help all American servicemen returning from World War II. However, African Americans were excluded from this.
