Introduction to The Collected Poems of H.D.

Hilda Doolitlle, better known as H.D., was a 20th century American poet. She was associated with the Imagist movement, a subset of literary modernism. H.D.'s work draws heavily from mythology and her background in Ancient Greek to comment on themes concerning gender, war, writing, and interpersonal relationships. The poems covered in this unit span her decades-long career, and range from very short, image-driven pieces to multi-page epics.

Day 1: Poems from Sea Garden, including "Sea Rose," "Sea Lily," "Sea Violet," "Sea Poppies," and "Sea Iris."

Day 2: "Eurydice," and "Oread" from The God and "Fragment 113" and "Why Have You Sought?" from Hymen.
