Jack Potter
Jack Potter is the protagonist of the story. He is a marshal in a small town, Yellow Sky. Jack goes to San Antonio and marries there a woman whom he brings now to his home town.
The bride
The bride stays unnamed within the entire story. She is neither very beautiful nor young, but she is happy to have a husband.
The drummer
The drummer is a visitor in “Weary Gentle” saloon, who does not know who Scratchy Wilson is. The owner of the saloon tells him that Wilson is a “wonder with a gun”, and every time he is drunk he is in the search for fight. The local marshal is the only one who is able to calm him down.
Scratchy Wilson
Wilson is the local bully. Every time when drunk, he begins shooting in the town. He used to be in the gang that hung out along the river near Yellow Sky.
