Chapter 1 - Units, Physical Quantities, and Vectors - Problems - Exercises - Page 29: 1.46

Answer

(a) The magnitude will be 4.61 in -z Direction (b) The magnitude will be 4.61 in + Direction

Work Step by Step

(a) Given : From the given Diagram |A|= 2.80 cm And |B|= 1.90 cm So, The angle Between A and B =∅ = 60 +60 = $120 ^{\circ}$ Magnitude = $ |A \times B| $ = AB sin ∅ (a) Magnitude =$ 2.80 \times 1.90 sin 120$ =$4.61cm^{2}$ Therefore , By the right hand rule the direction is -z (b) $B \times A$ has the same magnitude but in the opposite direction (z) because of $A \times B$= $ -B \times A$
