Answer

The claim is more than reasonable.

Work Step by Step

Trying to figure out if it is a reasonable claim - 20lbm every gallon it burns - Wants to get 25 miles per gallon rather than 20 - That will prevent 10 tons of carbon dioxide being released 10 tons = 22046.2 pounds The average mileage of a car = 200,000 miles This equals 8,000 gallons with 25mpg This equals 10,000 gallons with 20mpg Extra 2000 gallons = 40 000lb = 18 tonnes Therefore: It is actually better than a reasonable claim with cars now reaching over 200’000 miles. If it was 10 years ago, then the switch may not be worth it, but in recent times, a car with 25mpg will prevent ~18 tonnes of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere.
