Chapter 8 - Rotational Motion - Questions - Page 220: 17

Answer

Conservation of angular momentum.

Work Step by Step

Assume the player is not rotating when he leaves the ground, so has zero angular momentum. While in midair, he cannot exert a torque on himself, so his angular momentum is conserved. If the upper part of his body rotates one way while he throws, the lower part of his body must rotate the other way, to conserve angular momentum.
