Work Step by Step

Use equation 11-7 to find the maximum velocity. $$v_{max}=\frac{2\pi A}{T}=\frac{2 \pi (0.15m)}{7.0s}=0.13m/s$$ Use the expression on page 301, immediately after equation 11–10, to find the maximum acceleration. $$a_{max}=\frac{k A}{m}=\omega ^2 A=\frac{4\pi ^2 A}{T^2}$$ $$=\frac{4 \pi^2 (0.15m)}{(7.0s)^2}=0.12m/s^2$$ Compare this to g. $$\frac{a_{max}}{g}=\frac{0.121m/s^2}{9.90m/s^2}=0.012=1.2\%$$ It's about $1.2\%$ of gravity's acceleration.
