Chapter 10 - Fluids - Questions - Page 284: 17

Answer

Try it and see! The papers, perhaps surprisingly, move toward each other.

Work Step by Step

The air between the paper strips moves faster than the air to the left and right of the papers. By Bernoulli’s principle, the faster-moving air between the ships is at a lower pressure than the air outside of the papers. The pressure difference applies a force on the papers that pushes them closer together.
