Chapter 27 - Current and Resistance - Conceptual Questions - Page 761: 12

Answer

a.) True b.) True;False c.) False

Work Step by Step

a.) True. Inside a battery there is a chemical reaction that releases energy. This energy goes through the circuit and powers the appliances connected. b.) True;False. A battery is a source of potential difference. This is the same as saying a battery is the source of energy. The second part of this question is false, however. In the next chapter we will learn about real batteries where there is actually an internal resistance inside the battery. Unless the battery is an ideal battery, which is unrealistic, there is resistance between the terminals. Because of this, the potential voltage cannot be the same between the two terminals. c.) False. The amount of current in a wire and the amount that leaves a battery is dependent upon whether or not there are appliances connected in the circuit.
