Chapter 1 - Concepts of Motion - Exercises and Problems - Page 31: 60

Answer

A dog has just chased a frisbee thrown 30 meters away from his owner. After picking it up, the dog looks at his owner for 4 seconds and then begins jogging toward him. The jog lasts 4 seconds and puts the dog 15 meters away from the owner. The dog stops again and looks toward the owner for another 4 seconds. Then, over the next 8 seconds, the dog reaches its owner and drops the frisbee at their feet.

Work Step by Step

The y-axis shows the object starts 30 meters away. During the first 4 seconds, there is no change in movement. Then the object moves 15 meters toward the location in the next 4 seconds. After that, there is a pause in the movement for the next 4 seconds as depicted by the horizontal line. Finally, between 12 seconds and 20 seconds, the object moves closer to the location until it reaches 0 meters away.
