The radiation from widely-spaced tungsten atoms would be emitted at discrete wavelengths, but the atoms of solid tungsten in an incandescent light bulb filament interact with each other. The formerly well-defined energy levels are smeared by their interactions, and radiation from these atoms is smudged into a broad distribution, producing a smooth spectrum.
