The proposed model is similar to the transmission-of-light model in that there with every interaction, there is a delay, which lowers the average speed. The models are dissimilar in that it is one person who makes the entire walk. In contrast, during the process of light transmission through glass, in every interaction the "old light" is absorbed, and “new light” is emitted. (The models could be made more similar if a team crossed the room in the style of a relay race, passing a virtual baton.) This question is discussed in the Checkpoint on pages 492-493.
