If the speed of sound were significantly different for sounds of different frequencies, then the farther you sit from the orchestra, the more scrambled the music will be. Higher-frequency notes (say, played by a piccolo) would reach you at different times compared to lower-frequency notes (say, from the bass drum). When wave speed depends on frequency, the phenomenon is known as dispersion. Sound waves in air do not exhibit much dispersion.
