Imagine 100 of the 1-m long bars placed end to end. Each one expands 0.6 cm when heated, so the 100-m bar expands 100 times as much as one bar (0.6 cm for each meter), or 60 cm = 0.60 m. At the end, the heated bar is 100.6 m long.
