Chapter 15 - Think and Explain - Page 299-300: 70

Answer

Sand has a low specific heat capacity.

Work Step by Step

When a substance cools and heats relatively quickly, it has a relatively low specific heat capacity. Another way to phrase this is that the sand has little "thermal inertia". It suffers large temperature changes for small changes in internal energy. This is discussed on pages 290-291.
