The center of mass occurs where the majority of the mass of the object is. Since there is no bottom of the semi-circle, most of the mass is located near the top. Point B is in the middle, which would be the case if the mass was evenly distributed, but since this is not the case, we see that the CM must be above B. The point above B is point A.
