We know that the distance traveled by each car is $d=\frac{v^2}{2a}$ We plug in the known values to obtain: $d=\frac{(\frac{88}{3.6})^2}{2(8)}=37.3m$ and the total displacement of the two cars is $d^{\prime}=2d=2(37.3)=75m$ and the distance between the cars is $D=85-74.6=10m$
