At higher heights and altitudes there is a great difference in pressure between the ear (higher pressure) and the outside (lower pressure). Because of this pressure difference, the eardrum bulges out as the pressure inside the ear is higher than the outside pressure. Therefore, because of this ear bulging our ears hurt.
