- The Lewis Structure. 1. Draw 8 carbons in a straigth line, with 2 electrons forming each bond. 2. Add hydrogens until each carbon completes 4 bonds. - The Line Structure. Since the only molecules are carbon and hydrogen, and there are no double or triple bonds, the structure of an octane is just as shown in the figure. - Molecular Formula: Saturated hydrocarbons are described by this general formula. $C_nH_{2n + 2}$ Since it is an $oct$ane, n = 8. $C_8H_{18}$
