Chapter 12 - Review Questions - Page 524: 3

Answer

In the first reaction, since K is less than 1, at equilibrium, there will be a greater concentration of reactants than the same of products. On the second reaction, the reverse occurs, since K is greater than 1, there will be more products than reactants. At equilibrium, the rate of the forward and reverse reactions are equal, so there is not a faster one.

Work Step by Step

K = [Products]/[Reactants] If a fraction result is greater than 1: Numerator > Denominator. If a fraction result is less than 1: Denominator > Numerator.
