Amino acids are the monomers of protein. An amino acid comprises of a carbon atom which is bonded to four different groups: A carboxylic group, an amine group, an R group and a hydrogen atom. Two amino acids join together side by side, and OH from carboxylic group and H from amine group is removed to form a water molecule. This process is known as a condensation reaction. The resulting structure is called a dipeptide, and the bond formed is called a peptide bond. Many amino acids link together in this way to form a protein molecule.
