Protons and neutrons do not have the same exact mass (neutrons are slightly heavier), but both dwarf electrons in mass, and thus protons and neutrons make the greatest contribution to mass of an atom. However, electrons make the largest contribution to chemical properties, as movement of electrons causes bonds.
