We know that ethylene gas is responsible for ripening. When the bananas are placed inside a closed container, the ethylene gas will be trapped inside and will have more effect. When it is placed in a bowl, gases will not interacts sufficiently when placed openly in a bowl, as the ethylene gas will be diffused to atmosphere.
