Conjugation, transduction and transformation are the main forms in which bacteria transfer DNA sequences to each other.
Depending on the bacterial strain, it could be possible for an antibiotic resistance coding sequence to be transferred from one bacteria to another. Most antibiotic resistance genes are coded in plasmids.
These DNA transfer mechanisms are natural and spontaneous, so they cannot be avoided.
The only way to avoid the transfer of antibiotic resistances is is by reducing the use of antibiotics (that enable the artificial selection of resistant bacteria in the first place).
