Oxidation reduction is a reaction in which electrons from one reactant are transferred to another reactant. Hence one reactant gains electrons and the other one lose electrons. Aerobic respiration occurs in the presence of oxygen, where oxygen is reduced. Anaerobic respiration occurs in the absence of oxygen, and often an inorganic product is reduced.
