The hypothalamus contains neurosecretory neurons . It is part of the nervous system, but it is an endocrine gland that secretes several hormones. These include gonadotropin releasing hormones (GnRH). and the he releasing factors (hormones) for growth hormone, corticotropin (CRH), and thyrotropin (TRH). Other hormones secreted by the hypothalamic neurons are somatostatin, oxytocin and antidiuretic hormone (ADH). Dopamine is also produced by the hypothalamus, as it is in several other areas of the brain.
